Romania’s most livable cities

Numbeo.com, one of the world’s largest city data sites, runs continually updated rankings of cost of living, property prices, crime, pollution, traffic, health care and quality of life in cities around the world.

Their quality of life index is calculated using an empirical formula that takes into account purchasing power, pollution, house price-to-income ratios, cost of living, safety, health care, traffic commute time, and climate.

According to Numbeo, the highest-ranking Romanian cities are currently Timisoara (rank 16 in Europe, 49 in the world) and Cluj-Napoca (rank 19 in Europe, 52 in the world).

In 2015, the unemployment rate in the Timis county was around 1.5%, compared to approximately 5% in Romania as a whole.

Bucharest, Romania’s capital city, ranks 41 in Europe and 97 in the world.
